Nationals Sign Davey Martinez To Contract Extension
1 year agoThe Washington Nationals signed manager Davey Martinez to an undisclosed two-year contract extension on Monday, and they are close to signing general manager Mike Rizzo to a new deal as well, according to sources briefed on the discussions. Martinez, 58, will also receive a club option for a third year. The 62-year-old Rizzo is expected to sign a deal of similar length. The rebuilding Nationals are 23-14 since starting the year 34-54, and they are currently 12-5 of late. Martinez is 378-455 (.454 winning percentage) since taking over as the skipper in 2018. During his time at the helm, the club has lost Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon to free agency and have traded Max Scherzer, Trea Turner and Juan Soto.
