Nationals Acquire Yan Gomes Friday
6 years agoThe Washington Nationals acquired catcher Yan Gomes from the Indians on Friday in exchange for pitcher Jefry Rodriguez, outfield prospect Daniel Johnson and a player to be named. Gomes, who hit 16 home runs in 2018, will form a duo behind the plate with the recently signed Kurt Suzuki. Even though Gomes will be splitting time with Suzuki, he has value in single-catcher leagues for his offensive upside. Rodriguez had a 5.71 ERA in eight starts for the Nats in 2018 and came out of the bullpen late in the year. Johnson was a fifth-round pick in 2016 and hit .267 with six homers, seven triples, 32 RBI and 21 steals in 89 games with Double-A Harrisburg in 2018.
