Nate Jones Not Worried About Velocity
6 years agoChicago White Sox relief pitcher Nate Jones' fastball has averaged 94.9 mph in the two games he's appeared in 2019, which is down from the 97.2 mph he averaged in each of his last two seasons. The 33-year-old believes his velocity will pick back up as the season progresses, even though he appeared in only 33 games in 2018 due to a pronator strain in his right arm and 11 games in 2017 after undergoing surgery to reposition the ulnar nerve in his right arm. Jones also tinkered with how he approached hitters in spring training, but he shelved the plan when it didn't produce the desired results. The right-hander only has eight career saves and is now behind Alex Colome and Kelvin Herrera in the pecking order for saves in Chicago. You can ignore him for fantasy purposes.
