Mychal Givens Earns Sixth Save
3 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Mychal Givens threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Givens struck out one and allowed one hit in the frame. The veteran reliever was credited with a save, his sixth in eight chances this season. Givens has been an excellent addition to the Cincy bullpen, posting a 3-2 record, 2.89 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts over 43 2/3 innings and all six of his saves since joining the Reds at the trade deadline. He appears to have a firm grip on the closer role in Cincinnati, although manager David Bell has proven to be a bit unpredictable when it comes to doling out save chances.
