5 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Mookie Betts will serve as the leadoff hitter the rest of the way. The Red Sox tried outfielder Andrew Benintendi in the leadoff spot at times this year, but they'll settle on one of the best all-around athletes in the game in the top spot moving forward. In 2,219 career plate appearances in the leadoff spot, Betts has hit .302/.370/.531 with 90 home runs, 289 RBI and 79 stolen bases. The 2018 American League MVP is slashing .276/.387/.458 with nine home runs, 45 runs, 27 RBI and six stolen bases so far in 2019.
