Momentum From Olympic Break Carries Daniel Suarez to One of His Best Runs
3 months agoAs predicted here, despite Daniel Suarez's generally mediocre Richmond record, the positive momentum from his Olympic break gave him one of his best NASCAR Cup Series races ever. Despite Suarez's general lack of speed this season, his team significantly benefited from going on the option tires before any others did, enabling him to drive from 15th to the lead in a mere 13 laps. He maintained this track position to win Stage 2. Suarez's 93 laps led were his most ever, but he tanked in Stage 3 once all the other lead lap drivers took their option tires while Suarez switched to the primaries. He did make a furious charge and unlapped himself on track after taking the option tires again on his final pit stop, but could only make it back to tenth. Regardless, Richmond did prove to be Suarez's first major bright spot since his win at Atlanta.
