Mike Rizzo Gets Multi-Year Extension With Nationals
1 year agoThe Washington Nationals agreed to a multi-year contract extension with general manager Mike Rizzo on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 62-year-old has been with the organization since 2006 when the Lerner family made him the team's first hire. Rizzo's extension comes after the team signed manager Dave Martinez to a two-year extension last month. The Nationals haven't been great at developing their own draft picks during Rizzo's tenure, but they have orchestrated some brilliant trades, including acquiring Trea Turner from the Padres and Adam Eaton from the White Sox before the club won the World Series in 2018. Rizzo and Martinez will now be expected to develop the front-end prospect talent that they've acquired in the last few years.
