Michael Fulmer Not Close To Facing Hitters
5 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer (elbow) is 14 months into his recovery from Tommy John surgery, with the original timetable for his return at 14-16 months. Fulmer said last week that he's "100 percent pain-free" while throwing, but Fulmer isn't anywhere close to facing live hitters in part because of the COVID-19 restrictions. The right-hander is one of three players still working out at the team's spring training complex. The Tigers are pumping the breaks on Fulmer with the restart of the season still uncertain. “No chance,” pitching coach Rick Anderson said when asked if he thought Fulmer could be facing hitters soon. The 27-year-old could be facing hitters when a second spring training starts, but he last threw in a major league game on September of 2018, and fantasy owners in mixed leagues will likely want to take a wait-and-see approach before rostering him whenever the 2020 season gets underway. The team won't clear him to pitch in big league games until he has at least five starts under his belt.
