Mets Won't Be Trading Noah Syndergaard, Edwin Diaz
5 years agoNew York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said that the team definitely won't be trading starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard or closer Edwin Diaz in the offseason. The Mets plan on contending next year and beyond, so it wouldn't make sense to trade one of their best pitchers and best relievers. Thor posted a career-worst 4.28 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 in 197 2/3 innings (32 starts) in 2019. However, he still remains one of the more dominant starters in the game and makes an excellent one-two punch with Jacob deGrom. Diaz was one of the best closers (real life and fantasy) last year with Seattle, but he had a bad first year in New York, going 2-7 with a 5.59 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 26 saves in 66 outings (58 innings). There's certainly bounce-back potential next year, where he'll be a value pick as a closer.
