Mets Showing Interest In Brad Hand
4 years agoThe New York Mets have interest in All-Star closer Brad Hand, who had a 2.05 ERA, 1.37 FIP and 0.77 WHIP while leading the American League with 16 saves in 2020 for the Indians. General manager Sandy Alderson said that the new front-office regime might have claimed Hand off waivers had it been their call then. He was an All-Star in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The southpaw reliever would give New York some insurance in the ninth inning after closer Edwin Diaz rebounded last year with a 1.75 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings, but he converted just six of his 10 save chances, giving him 11 blown saves in 43 chances in his two seasons with the Mets. Adding Hand would also allow Seth Lugo to remain in the rotation if the Mets choose to go that route. Hand's strikeout rate is above-average, but he wouldn't have nearly as much fantasy appeal if he wasn't the regular ninth-inning arm in his new home.
