Melvin Gordon Plans To Report This Year
5 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon doesn't think he'll be traded and will continue to hold out to "protect himself," but he will report in 2019, according to a source. "This is not a Le'Veon Bell situation," the source said. "He still wants to be a Charger. But he's got to protect himself." Gordon's fifth-year option is set to pay him $5.605 million this year. It looks like Gordon will sit out until midseason in order to accrue an NFL season toward free agency. The Chargers put up 435 yards of offense in a Week 1 overtime win against the Colts, with Austin Ekeler rushing 12 times for 58 yards and a touchdown and also catching six passes for 96 more yards and two scores. Ekeler remains locked in as an RB1 as long as Gordon remains away, especially with tight end Hunter Henry (knee) injured. Gordon needs to be stashed away in all leagues.
