Mekhi Becton Projected To Start At Left Tackle Right Away
5 years agoNew York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, the team's No. 11 overall pick in the first round on Thursday night, is projected to be the team's Week 1 starter at left tackle alongside left guard Alex Lewis, center Connor McGovern, right guard Greg Van Roten and right tackle George Fant. Fant has played mostly left tackle, but he also has 135 career snaps at right tackle, so he's flexible. Becton profiles as a fixture on the left side for years to come and is great news for quarterback Sam Darnold's protection on the blind side. He's a beast of a human being at 6-foot-7, 364 pounds, and he also has athleticism and movement skills despite his size. He is a mauler in the run game but also has the body control to slow down edge rushers.
