Max Muncy 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Bounce Back Potential Supporting ADP
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is a unique baseball player. His 2022 season was the second time in three seasons he hit below the Mendoza Line as he posted a .196 batting average last season, two years removed from a .192 mark from the shortened 2020 campaign. Yet Muncy managed a decent .329 on-base percentage on the back of a 15.9% BB% a season ago. Despite his power dipping to 21 home runs and a .188 isolated power in 2022, the 32-year-old also ranked in the 91st percentile in barrel rate, 78th in hard-hit rate, and 75th in average exit velocity. While two of his last three campaigns have been well below his standards, a bounce-back in 2023 should be in the cards. Steamer projects Muncy to hit 25 home runs with an ISO back to .206. He'll get his fair share of RBI and runs on a dynamic Dodgers offense, and while he's never provided much in terms of average, OBP leagues are much more favorable to the Dodgers' third baseman. Muncy is RotoBaller's ninth-ranked third baseman, with his ADP coming in around 148. There's healthy bounce-back potential in 2023 as his quality underlying metrics from last season point toward a return to extraordinary power this time around. His ADP is reasonable, given the likelihood of a return to the mean.
