Mavericks Hopeful Luka Doncic Plays In Opener
9 months agoDallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic (calf) is not going to play in Friday's preseason finale versus the Detroit Pistons. The Mavericks are optimistic, however, that Doncic will be ready to go for Oct. 25's season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. Doncic is dealing with a "mild" left calf strain, per head coach Jason Kidd, after playing only five minutes in last Tuesday's exhibition contest. It's not exactly what fantasy managers want to hear regarding the four-time All-Star, especially considering Doncic also dealt with a nagging thigh issue during this past summer's FIBA World Cup. As it stands, Doncic should probably not be moved very much, if at all, in fantasy draft rankings this fall, but the superstar playmaker's status needs to be heavily monitored ahead of the season. Keep an eye on Jaden Hardy as a deep-league flier until Doncic and Kyrie Irving (groin) are officially off the injury report.
