Matt Strahm Destined For Starting Rotation
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter/reliever Matt Strahm is on track to be the team’s fourth starter to begin the regular season. Strahm fired five innings of scoreless ball and recorded four strikeouts Wednesday to bring his spring resume to a 2.65 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 across 17 frames. Strahm’s strong performance and injuries to other potential starters have likely secured his rotation spot. The 27-year-old was used primarily as a reliever in 2018 after returning from knee surgery and registered a sparkling 2.05 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. With four quality pitches, endurance is the key risk for Strahm as a starter. He’s an intriguing sleeper candidate in fantasy drafts.
