Matt Chapman Becoming Elite With Bat
6 years agoOakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman has been one of the league's best hitters for more than half a season; he has slashed .309/.371/.591 with a home run every 17 at-bats since last year's All-Star game. He has a 162 wRC+ (weighted runs created plus), which ranks eighth over that span. Chapman is also 10th in slugging percentage over that time. He is hitting .284/.361/.581 with six home runs and 159 wRC+ to start the 2019 season. With a glove that is one of the best in the game at the hot corner, Chapman has become one of the best two-way players in baseball. His chase rate is down 3.6 percent this year and he's striking out only 10.1 percent of the time, showing improvement in his plate discipline.
