Matt Carpenter Should Be Good For Opening Day
6 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (back) isn't expected back in the spring lineup until at least Friday, but manager Mike Shildt isn't concerned about Carpenter's back tightness becoming an issue that will keep him from being ready on Opening Day. Carp hit .257/.374/.523 with a career-high 36 home runs and 81 RBI in 156 games for the Cardinals in 2018 and will have more protection in Paul Goldschmidt in 2019. However, you shouldn't expect him to match that home run output, although he's still quite valuable for his position flexibility and power in the early rounds.
