Marlins Take Max Meyer Third Overall
4 years agoThe Miami Marlins selected Minnesota pitcher Max Meyer with the third overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. Meyer was taken late in the 2017 draft but went to college and tied the school record with 16 saves as a freshman. The right-hander had a 2.11 ERA (second in the Big Ten) in his sophomore season. Meyer went this high in the draft because he possesses the best slider in the draft class and also has the ability to hit triple digits with his heater. The one knock on him is his size (6-foot), so there are questions about his long-term durability as a starter in the big league. However, Meyer has a very fluid delivery and is an extreme competitor, so we wouldn't count him out as a future front-line starter.
