Marlins Acquire Jose Castillo From Padres
1 year agoThe Miami Marlins acquired left-hander Jose Castillo from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. The Marlins then optioned Castillo to Triple-A Jacksonville. The move comes after the Padres designated Castillo for assignment last week. In his only relief appearance for the Friars in 2023, he allowed four earned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out none in one-third of an inning on July 4 against the Los Angeles Angels. The 27-year-old Venezuelan southpaw was sporting an ugly 9.82 ERA, 2.07 WHIP, two saves, 11 walks and 22 strikeouts in 18 1/3 relief innings over 22 appearances for Triple-A El Paso before the trade.
