Marlins Acquire Jonathan Villar
5 years agoThe Miami Marlins acquired second baseman Jonathan Villar from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in exchange for minor league left-hander Easton Lucas. Villar hit .274 with a .792 OPS, 24 home runs, 73 RBI and 40 stolen bases last year for the lowly Orioles. He'll join a similarly bad team in Miami and won't have the hitter-friendly ballpark in Camden Yards anymore, but Villar will still be plenty valuable in fantasy hitting atop the Marlins lineup. Hanser Alberto, Richie Martin, Steve Wilkerson and Pat Valaika will be options to replace Villar in Baltimore. Lucas was a 14th-round pick of the Mariners in 2019 and pitched for the Gulf Coast Marlins and Low-A Batavia this year. He could become a back-end starter down the road if he develops.
