Mark Melancon Earns 23rd Save Of Season
3 years agoSan Diego Padres closer Mark Melancon earned his 23rd save of the season in a 5-3 victory on Wednesday to help the Friars sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time since 2013. Melancon allowed a leadoff single and a walk but was aided by a double play to end the contest. The veteran right-hander leads baseball with his 23 saves and also has a nice 1.91 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 33 relief innings. However, his 3.83 FIP and mediocre 7.6 K/9 for a closer are reasons to be worried heading into the second half of the season. Melancon continues to rack up save chances for a strong Padres club, but fantasy managers that are set in the saves department might want to consider selling high.
