Mariners Willing To Eat Money To Deal Mike Leake
5 years agoThe Seattle Mariners are telling interested teams that they will eat a large portion of starting pitcher Mike Leake's remaining salary to facilitate a trade. Leake is earning $16 million this year and is scheduled to make $15 million in 2020. He has an $18 million option ($5 million buyout) in 2021. The 31-year-old right-hander was just three outs from a perfect game against the Angels two weeks ago, but he's been largely mediocre in 2019 with the M's. He's 9-8 with a 4.40 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 100 strikeouts in 137 innings (22 starts). Leake is also extremely homer-prone, allowing 26 big flies this season. A trade could increase his fantasy value slightly, but he'd still be nothing more than a deep league streamer in favorable matchups. The Brewers and Rangers are among the teams with interest in Leake, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
