Mariners May Not Have Set Closer
6 years agoSeattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said the team might go into the season without a set ninth-inning option. "There may not be a set closer on a particular night," Servais said. "We might have our hottest reliever come in the game in the eighth inning. … It will frustrate some people, but there’s a method to the madness. Some nights it’ll work, some nights it may not, but that’ll be the approach going in." Hunter Strickland has the most closing experience and figures to see most of the chances, but he's a low-end closing target late in drafts. Anthony Swarzak, if he's healthy, could steal save opps away from Strickland.
