Mariners Acquire Mallex Smith, Jake Fraley
6 years agoThe Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Mallex Smith and minor league outfielder Jake Fraley from the Rays on Thursday in exchange for catcher Mike Zunino, outfielder Guillermo Heredia and minor league pitcher Michael Plassmeyer. This may not be the first trade the M's pull off this winter as they look to rebuild. Smith had the best season of his career in 2018 with Tampa, slashing .296/.367/.406 with two homers, 40 RBI and 40 stolen bases. He should be a starter in Seattle's outfield and will be a prime stolen base target in fantasy drafts. Fraley hit an impressive .347/.415/.547 but with just four home runs, 41 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 66 games for High-A Charlotte. There isn't much power to be had here, but his speed seems to be his real calling card.
