Luis Urias Unlikely To Return This Year
6 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Luis Urias (hamstring), the No. 4 prospect in the organization, pulled his left hamstring on Tuesday and manager Andy Green said it's "doubtful" that Urias returns this year. Urias was called up last month and went 10-for-48 with two home runs in his first taste of big league action. Infielders Corey Spangenberg and Jose Pirela are both options to split time at the keystone in place of Urias to close out the season. Shortstop Freddy Galvis could also slide over to second with Javy Guerra getting a look at shortstop. Urias hit .296/.398/.447 with eight home runs and 45 RBI in 120 games for Triple-A El Paso this year. He should have a shot to compete for the second base job in spring training next year. Urias won't be a stud in the counting stats, but he has great contact skills that should support a strong average at the next level.
