Luis Patino Could Be Used In Relief
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays right-hander Luis Patino remained on the roster on Monday after he made his debut with the team on Sunday by throwing 2 2/3 hitless innings against the Toronto Blue Jays. He worked as a multi-inning opener and gave way to lefty Josh Fleming. Manager Kevin Cash said that the team will look to use the 21-year-old in a similar role going forward, which will make him available to pitch out of the bullpen, if needed. Patino made 11 appearances (one start) in his major league debut last year with the San Diego Padres. There's plenty of upside in his right arm, but his fantasy value could be limited in single-year formats in 2021 if he's used often as an opener or reliever for Tampa.
