Lourdes Gurriel To See Reps In Outfield
6 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays plan to give infielder Lourdes Gurriel repetitions in the outfield at Triple-A Buffalo so that they can use him as a super-utility player when he eventually returns to the majors. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now at third base, the team no longer wants Gurriel to play second base exclusively, which would limit Brandon Drury's playing time. Gurriel developed the yips at second base and was optioned on April 14. He has a 1.069 OPS in 16 games in the minors, so the Blue Jays are mainly working on his defense on the farm. He had only seven hits in 40 at-bats (.175) in the majors. Gurriel could become an option again in AL-only leagues when he returns, but his uncertain playing time will be an issue.
