Kyle Schwarber Won't Take Part In Home Run Derby
4 years agoWashington Nationals outfielder Kyle Schwarber won't take part in this year's Home Run Derby despite hitting another leadoff home run on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Schwarber is tied for the National League lead in home runs with 25. The 28-year-old now has an absurd 16 home runs in the month of June, giving him 16 long balls in his last 18 games, tying Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa for the most in that time frame. Seven of those home runs have come while in the leadoff spot. Schwarber credits an early hitting session recently with hitting coach Kevin Long as the point where things started to turn for him. The lefty slugger is on a ridiculous stretch, and his fantasy managers are just hoping he'll remain half this hot when the calendar flips to July.
