Kyle Barraclough Staying In Closer's Role For Now
6 years agoMiami Marlins manager Don Mattingly said closer Kyle Barraclough will remain in the closer's role for now, but the manager admitted that he'll be "top-stepping" it in the dugout until Barraclough can fix his fastball command. Barraclough has mostly been solid for the Fish since taking over the ninth-inning duties, but he's faltered of late, allowing 10 hits (three homers) and 11 earned runs in his last five outings covering 4 1/3 innings. He's 0-2 with three blown saves in that time. His leash is shortening and Drew Steckenrider would likely be next in line for saves if Barraclough doesn't turn it around. If you're speculating for saves, it'd be wise to stash Steckenrider now.
