Kirby Yates Will Be Impactful Reliever In Los Angeles; Few Save Chances?
18 mins agoVeteran right-hander Kirby Yates recently signed a one-year, $13 million pact with the Los Angeles Dodgers last month. Yates joins a stacked bullpen that added stalwart Tanner Scott to a group that already included Evan Phillips, Blake Treinen, and incumbent closer Michael Kopech. Last year, Yates was spectacular for the Texas Rangers, winning seven games while saving 33 with a microscopic 1.17 ERA and .83 WHIPS. The veteran also posted 85 strikeouts in 61 innings. It's unknown at this time how manager Dave Roberts will handle his bevy of resources, but look for Yates to pitch in a high-leverage role in the seventh and eighth innings in support of Scott. The best guess is that Yates may earn eight to ten saves if Roberts decides to use Scott differently some days, or if Scott needs a rest. Yates should earn plenty of holds and garner strikeouts as well.
