Ken Giles Agrees To Two-Year Deal With Mariners
4 years agoThe Seattle Mariners agreed to an undisclosed two-year deal with free-agent relief pitcher Ken Giles (elbow) on Thursday, according to sources. Giles will miss the entire 2021 season while coming off Tommy John surgery, but he's expected to be ready for 2022. Before he had surgery last season, the hard-throwing right-hander posted a 1.87 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 83 strikeouts, 17 walks and 23 saves in 53 innings in his last full season with the Blue Jays in 2019. His power arm could give the M's a formidable late-inning bullpen along with Kendall Graveman, Keynan Middleton, Rafael Montero and Andres Munoz in 2022, but fantasy managers in single-year leagues can avoid Giles this year. If you're looking for saves in Seattle's bullpen, Montero will be the low-end closer to target in 2021.
