Josh Naylor 2025 Player Outlook: Still Projects For High RBI Total With New Club
2 days agoEarlier this offseason, Josh Naylor was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi. Naylor spent the past four seasons of his major league career in Cleveland and was known for his elite RBI production. Over the past two seasons, Naylor tallied at least 97 RBI in each campaign and just set a career-high of 108 last summer. Across 152 games last season, the 27-year-old carried a .243/.320/.456 slash line with 31 home runs (also a career-high) and six stolen bases. His 31 home run count was a significant increase compared to the 20 and 17 he hit in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Under the hood, Naylor generated a .335xwOBA, .257xBA, and a .443xSLG, which were all above the average marks. In addition, Naylor is a valuable asset in points leagues, given his solid 16.6% K rate, which placed him in the 80th percentile among qualified hitters. While batting behind Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez presented him with ample RBI opportunities on a daily basis, fantasy managers should not be overly concerned with his scoring production in 2025. In the desert, Naylor will have an everyday role at first base and will likely bat behind players such as Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll who should set Naylor up for just as many RBI opportunities. Currently being drafted as the No.7 first baseman off the board at a 95.92 ADP on the NFBC, makes Naylor a solid low-end starting first baseman that should produce excellent counting stats with 20+ home run upside.
