Jose Miranda Scratched With Back Stiffness
4 months agoThe Minnesota Twins scratched third baseman Jose Miranda (back) from Friday's series opener against the hosting San Francisco Giants with lower-back stiffness. Rookie infielder Brooks Lee was originally slated to make his first career big-league start at second base, but the injury to Miranda caused him to be moved to third base while hitting seventh. Willi Castro will now play the keystone and hit fifth for the Twins against Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison. Matt Wallner draws into the lineup in right field and is batting eighth. Even if Miranda's back injury isn't serious, it wouldn't be a surprise if he sat out the entire weekend with the All-Star break coming next week. The 26-year-old has been swinging a hot bat all year in a bounce-back campaign, especially recently, hitting .490 (25-for-51) with a homer, seven doubles, 13 RBI and a steal in 14 games since June 26.
