5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jose Martinez (shoulder) said that he expects to start his rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Monday. Barring any setbacks, Martinez could return to the Cardinals at some point late next week. The 31-year-old is hitting .266/.336/.401 on the season with 10 home runs, 42 runs and 40 RBI in 312 at-bats. When he's back in the big leagues, he'll be fighting for playing time among Harrison Bader, Marcell Ozuna, Dexter Fowler, Lane Thomas and Tyler O'Neill. It's safe to say that Martinez will be a part-time player, at best, the rest of the way.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
