Jose Castillo Injures Lat
4 years agoSan Diego Padres relief pitcher Jose Castillo (lat) left the Tuesday night intrasquad with a lat injury, according to manager Jayce Tingler. The Padres are awaiting results from some tests, but they think Castillo is dealing with a lat strain, which would almost certainly cause him to miss the beginning of the regular season. The 24-year-old southpaw from Venezuela only saw two-thirds of an inning in the big leagues in 2019, but he was solid with a 3.29 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 52 strikeouts in 38 1/3 relief innings over 37 appearances in his first year in the majors in 2018. Castillo will strictly be a middle reliever for the Friars if he pitches at all in 2020.
