Jose Alvarado To Be Shut Down For Next 10-14 Days
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher Jose Alvarado will be shut down for at least the next week due to what “appeared to be like a lat strain,” per manager Kevin Cash. Alvarado has managed to continue racking up strikeouts in 2020 (13 in nine IP), but he has been hit harder than in year’s past as his 16.7 barrel % and .518 xwOBAcon rank well below average. The loss at the back end of the Tampa Bay bullpen puts further usage opportunities upon the shoulders of Nick Anderson and Ryan Thompson, with the former blossoming into a top tier relief arm. Combining his lack of effectiveness with injury, Alvarado can be left on the waiver wire in all season-long formats.
