Jose Alvarado Expected Back Soon
5 years agoTampa Bay Rays pitching coach Kyle Snyder said that relief pitcher Jose Alvarado threw bullpen sessions on back-to-back days on Monday and Tuesday, and the team expects him to be back in the "near future." The left-handed reliever has been out since June 1 while handling a family matter, but it looks like he'll once again be an option in the ninth inning relatively soon. With Diego Castillo injured, Emilio Pagan is the Rays main closing option until Alvarado rejoins the roster. Pagan should be owned in all formats, while Alvarado is deserving of being stashed in deeper mixed leagues. He's posted a 3.09 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, six saves and 32 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings.
