Jorge Soler Agrees To Three-Year Deal With Marlins
3 years agoFree-agent outfielder Jorge Soler agreed to a three-year, $36 million deal with the Miami Marlins on Saturday, according to a source. Soler has opt-outs after both this year and next season. The 30-year-old Cuban slugger was with the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves last year, and he was a key offensive piece that helped carry the Braves to a World Series title last fall. In 602 combined plate appearances with KC and Atlanta, he hit .223/.316/.432 with 27 home runs, 70 RBI and 74 runs scored in the regular season. With the Braves, Soler batted .269 with 14 home runs and 33 RBI in 55 games. Soler brings elite power -- he led the league in long balls with 48 in 2019 -- but he swings and misses too much to be a reliable batting average contribute. He'll fill a much-needed outfield/designated hitter role in Miami and should hit in the heart of the order.
