Jordan Matthews Returns To 49ers
3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers re-signed tight end Jordan Matthews to a Reserve/Futures contract on Wednesday. Matthews, originally drafted in the second round as a wide receiver by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, has been with the 49ers since the 2019 season. However, he's been active for only four total games and played only four special teams snaps in his lone game in 2021 in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. The 29-year-old will merely be competing for a spot on the active roster in training camp this summer, and even if he makes the squad to begin the regular season, Matthews is unlikely to become a big part of San Francisco's offense with George Kittle around.
