Jordan Hicks Reaches Another Milestone
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Jordan Hicks (elbow) faced the Nationals in a B game on Wednesday for the first time since June of 2019. The hard-throwing right-hander had a 1-2-3 inning on just 11 pitches, striking out one and inducing two groundouts. Hicks recently flashed 102 mph on the radar gun in a live batting practice session, and manager Mike Shildt said that he looked good on Wednesday. Barring setbacks, Hicks' next outing will likely be in a Grapefruit League game. He had Tommy John surgery in 2019 and opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 as a high-risk individual with Type 1 diabetes. The Cardinals could ease Hicks into low-leverage situations to begin the year, but if he's healthy and dealing, he'll likely be their full-time closer.
