Jordan Hicks Named No. 5 Starter
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jordan Hicks will open the year as the team's No. 5 starter. Jack Flaherty (shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list, so his injury opened up a spot in the starting rotation. Hicks was expected to have a shot at save chances alongside Giovanny Gallegos and others in 2022, but for now, he'll begin the year as an opener. The 25-year-old's longest outing in spring training was for 1 1/3 frames, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to get much out of Hicks in DFS. Hicks could be an option for saves later in the year, but most fantasy managers can ignore him for now in redraft leagues, especially since he's only thrown 38 2/3 innings over the last three years due to injuries -- he did not pitch at all in 2020 after opting out.
