Jordan Hicks Activated, Matthew Liberatore Recalled
2 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals activated right-hander Jordan Hicks (forearm) from the 15-day injured list on Saturday and recalled rookie left-hander Matthew Liberatore from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. The team also optioned right-hander Jake Woodford to Memphis and designated right-hander Nick Wittgren for assignment. Hicks has been out since May and is likely to serve in a relief role now that he's healthy, limiting his fantasy appeal to much deeper leagues. Liberatore, the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will make his fifth big-league start on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 22-year-old lefty could stick in the rotation with Jack Flaherty and Steven Matz on the injured list. He's allowed eight earned runs on 19 hits while walking 10 and striking out 15 in 18 innings, and he'll need to show better control if he wants better results.
