Jonathan Villar To See Time At Third Base, Outfield
5 years agoMiami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said that newly acquired infielder Jonathan Villar will see time at third base and in the outfield next year. He'll be a fallback option at shortstop and second base. Using Villar at third base and in the outfield will allow the Marlins to give youngster Isan Diaz a chance to prove that his struggles late in the year were just a learning experience in his first taste of big league pitching. Miami wisely swooped on the speedy Villar with the Orioles looking to save money. The 28-year-old switch-hitter was universally relevant in fantasy leagues on the lowly O's last year, hitting .274/.339/.453 with 24 home runs, 73 RBI, 111 runs and 40 stolen bases. Even on another bad team in the Marlins, Villar will have plenty of appeal for his power/speed combination. Adding positional versatility to his profile will sweeten the deal.
