5 years agoTampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle (wrist) will start his rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte on Thursday. Manager Kevin Cash said Wendle will have to manage the pain in his fractured wrist. Wendle had three hits in 22 at-bats (.136) with no homers and two RBI in 2019 before his injury, and he'll likely return to an infield utility role with Yandy Diaz starting at third base and Brandon Lowe entrenched at second base, at least against right-handers. Wendle hit .300 but also had only seven home runs in 139 games for Tampa last season. He's more of an AL-only commodity when healthy.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
