Joey Bart 2022 Player Outlook: Clear Path To Start For The Giants
3 years agoSan Francisco Giants catcher Joey Bart will have a clear path to start with seven-time All-Star Buster Posey retiring this offseason. He is one of the Giants' top prospects and will have a chance to prove why San Francisco selected him second overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. The 25-year-old lacked plate discipline in Triple-A and the majors, posting a 31.6% strikeout rate and 6.1% walk rate over 396 plate appearances. He will be a drain on fantasy managers' batting average but does have raw power, evidenced by belting 15 doubles and mashing 10 home runs through 67 games in Triple-A. Bart has yet to hit a homer in 35 career MLB games. ATC projects the Giants' top prospect to slash .240/.292/.365 with eight home runs, 39 RBI, 39 runs scored, and a stolen base over 370 plate appearances. Bart is San Francisco's catcher of the future and will compete with Curt Casali to be the Giants' primary catcher. Still, his lack of plate discipline could cost him at-bats, making him mainly an option in dynasty and two-catcher formats.
