Joe Staley Officially Retires
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers left tackle Joe Staley officially announced his retirement from the NFL. Staley told the 49ers he was retiring, so they went ahead and traded for left tackle Trent Williams right before their fourth-round pick on Saturday. Staley was a first-round pick (28th overall) of the Niners back in 2007 and was a six-time Pro Bowler in his successful and lengthy career. He only played in seven games in 2019 because of injury and felt it was time to hang up his cleats. Williams, a perennial Pro Bowler himself, will step in immediately on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's blind side in 2020 despite sitting out all of 2019.
