Jeremy Hill Helps His Cause Thursday
6 years agoNew England Patriots running back Jeremy Hill, who is fighting for a roster spot with Mike Gillislee in training camp and the preseason, helped his cause with a solid performance in the preseason opener on Thursday. He carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards and a touchdown. Hill hadn't gained more than 50 yards on the ground in any game since Week 14 of the 2016 season. He's also dropped 10 pounds and says he feels "lighter on (his) feet." On the flip side, Gillislee had 43 yards on 14 carries (3.1 yards per carry) and also botched a handoff. Hill appears to be leading the competition over Gillislee for the final spot. Still, even if Hill wins a roster spot, he'll be behind Rex Burkhead, James White and rookie Sony Michel in a short-yardage role, which wouldn't yield much fantasy value.
