Jeffrey Springs 2025 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: A Late-Round Value If He Can Surpass 100 Innings Pitched
1 day agoThe Sacramento Athletics acquired left-hander Jeffrey Springs and Jacob Lopez from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Joe Boyle, Jacob Watters, and Will Simpson. Springs is currently penciled in as the A's No. 2 starter behind significant free agent acquisition Luis Severino. The 32-year-old missed most of the 2024 season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Springs was solid during his limited action last year, posting a 3.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 10.1 K:9 across 33 innings for the Rays. The southpaw relied on his fastball and changeup to get batters out and posted an elite 13.4% swinging strike percentage. The downside with Springs is that he has reached over 100 innings once in his seven-year career. He also gets a park downgrade, shifting from Tropicana Field to Sacramento. If the veteran left-hander can stay healthy and pitch over 100 innings, he should provide solid fantasy value at his most recent NFBC ADP of 265. ATC projections are on board with this, projecting Springs with a 3.81 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 139 punchouts over 138 innings in 2025. Springs is SP89 in the latest RotoBaller starting pitcher rankings and is worth taking a gamble on after pick 250 in upcoming fantasy drafts.
