5 years agoThe St. Louis Cardinals placed infielder Jedd Gyorko (back) on the 10-day disabled list on Saturday with a lower back strain and recalled infield prospect Tommy Edman from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. Pitcher Merandy Gonzalez was also designated for assignment. Gyorko had been working as a utility infielder this year for the Red Birds and was hitting an ugly .196 (11-for-56) with two home runs, seven RBI and 14 strikeouts. He wasn't of much use in any fantasy leagues. Edman, the team's No. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is a switch-hitter that was slashing .305/.356/.513 with seven home runs, 29 RBI and nine steals in 49 games for Memphis. He'll serve as a utility infielder but might have some appeal in NL-only leagues for his speed.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
