Jed Lowrie Not Close To Rehab Assignment
6 years agoNew York Mets third baseman Jed Lowrie (knee), who took on-field batting practice for the first time last weekend, is not close to going on a rehab assignment. He feels he must continue strengthening his legs before he moves to game action as he recovers from a sprained left knee capsule. “I don’t think we have a day or a week or anything like that in mind, but very encouraged,” manager Mickey Callaway said. “He looks great.” Lowrie won't make his season debut until May, and it's fair to wonder how effective he'll be after a career year in his final season in Oakland in 2018. J.D. Davis and Jeff McNeil should continue to split starts at third base in the meantime, with Todd Frazier (oblique) also factoring in there when he's ready to return from the injured list sometime soon.
